Appropriations

(…) Marcos Chaves, like Duchamp, lets himself be seduced by the surprises of the pun, its dissociations, its character as a trap. Both the word and the object are taken out of their ordinary context and unpredictably reconnected to something else. Creation is therefore based on unexpected combinations between objects and between objects and their environment. The idea is to alter meaning through the physical and logical displacement of things, to transform their “personality” and their “place”.
